In RAROC (Risk-Adjusted Return on Capital) calculations, revenue typically refers to the total income generated from a loan, which includes interest and fees, before deducting any costs or expenses. Profit, on the other hand, is the amount remaining after subtracting all associated costs, such as operating expenses, provisions for loan losses, and capital costs. The confusion arises because the term "loan revenue" in this context refers to the income from the loan (gross of costs), not the net income. Thus, in RAROC, revenue is the total income, while profit is the net income after accounting for costs. This distinction is crucial because RAROC measures the return relative to the capital required, and it uses profit to assess the performance against the risk-adjusted capital employed.
