ETF的原理是，投資者拿著一攬子證券與基金經(jīng)理以物易物更換，投資者將一攬子證券給到基金經(jīng)理，而基金經(jīng)理給到投資者ETF份額。一攬子證券是由基金經(jīng)理事前規(guī)定的。
比如，基金經(jīng)理發(fā)行白酒ETF，他規(guī)定一攬子證券包括茅臺、五糧液，且按照1:1:1的比例更換ETF份額，那么投資者想要申購ETF份額就需要在市場上買一股茅臺與一股五糧液，找基金經(jīng)理以物易物申購一份ETF。
